Bleeding Tooth Fungus

Let's face it, fungi are pretty weird already. When they start oozing a liquid that looks like blood though? Now you know something's up. The Bleeding Tooth Fungus lives in forests across North America, particularly the North West.

Lobster Moth

The Lobster Moth itself isn't so odd. It's Caterpillar stage, however, is one of the oddest and most unsettling caterpillars ever.

I don't know about you, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to see this thing in my trees. Luckily for us, the Lobster Moth only lives in England. Not so lucky for the British though.

Giant Isopod

The Giant Isopod looks like something H.P Lovecraft would have thought up. The Giant Isopod can reach upwards of 14 inches.

Isopods are scavengers, and while most feed on plankton, the Giant Isopod is carnivorous and will even eat whale carcasses.

Saint Helena Earwig

Earwigs. They're pretty terrible already, but there's something even worse. Giant Earwigs. The Saint Helena Earwig can exceed 80 mm in length.

Saint Helena Earwigs are only native to Saint Helena, a small island in the South Atlantic. They are critically endangered due to predation by other animals. Luckily for humans, they aren't dangerous at all.

Chinese Knotweed

This one is going to be incredibly hard to beat, and it just so happens to be the first post.
This is the Chinese Knotweed, also known as Chinese Fleeceflower:

Nothing at all weird about that, right? How about this?

Or this?

The roots of Chinese Knotweed typically grow in these patterns that looks like perfect little people. Chinese Knoweed is used mostly as a substance in herbal medicines.

Weird Wilderness

This blog is partly because it's an assignment for Digital Design, but also to document the weirdest, and most interesting plants and animals found in the world. Some of the weirdest parts of nature will be shown, but also some stuff that I think is just plain cool.
